A few hours later, we entered the alpine zone. The alpine zone is dominated by trees with needles, low lying shrub, and grass. Thankfully, the humidity completely goes away and you get some sunshine again! The alpine zone had slightly different plants than you would find in the USA, but it was much more familiar to me than the cloud forest. Base camp was situated at 11k feet, overlooking Fuego.
That looks so awesome but so strenuous and difficult! I bet that burger and bed felt like pure luxury
