Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano located 52 miles northeast of Portland, Oregon, and 98 miles south of Seattle. On May 18th 1980 it had a major eruption which unfortunately was the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in U.S. history. When chatting with patients about the mountain many remember exactly what they were doing when the eruption occurred. One told me that all the stores ran out of windshield wipers because the ash damaged the blades very quickly. After its 1980 eruption, the volcano experienced continuous volcanic activity until 2008.
What an adventure! Looks like coming down was fun and a little wet. Well Indiana Jones, what’s your next adventure? Do you have alligator boots yet?
I love this post! How excited it must have been. I love living though your adventures as I know that I would never be able to hike like that!!
