Before checking in to our inn, we took a short hike through a pygmy forest and a ravine with a small redwood forest growing in it. Due to how the earth was pushed up via tectonic plate action, there are several “plateaus” rising up from the ocean that plants grow on. Because of the unique soil conditions on each plateau, one contains forests of pygmy trees. Cyprus trees, easily growing a hundred feet tall, only reach a few feet tall here. Plus, only 2 miles away there exist coastal redwoods- the tallest trees on planet earth.
Love reading about your adventures. Happy Thanksgiving!
